These sessions will be hosted by Steph McMann. Steph McMann is a London based dancer, movement coach and choreographer, whose work fuses emotional and embodied depth with physical precision. A notable performer with a rich background in the contemporary arts and a successful performance career of over 15 years, she is known for creating evocative, behaviourally grounded movement. Steph’s work is shaped by a career spanning internationally recognised film, tv, music and globally staged theatre. Steph values collaboration across disciplines, identities and environments.
These workshops will guide participants through a structured improvisational class grounded in somatic principles. We will explore noticing as a practice, deepening our listening and cultivating available, responsive states. Through a process of layering and weaving movement scores, images, and questions, we’ll play with giving and receiving simultaneously, disrupting self-judgment and emboldening play. We will aim to build confidence through connection with our dancing selves, moving directly with the tensions and relationships between our senses, environments, and pleasures.
Some tasks may involve touch or group work, but all activities can be adapted to meet individual needs.
These classes are open to those wanting to enquire into knowns and unknowns of the stuff of our bodies and beings in movement and dancing practices. Come as you are and use what is useful to you at your own pace.
